What is a USB Flash Drive?

          A universal serial bus (USB) flash drive, commonly, known as pen-drive, is a small, portable device that plugs into a computer's USB port. Like a hard disk, USB flash drive stores information, but with a flash drive you can easily transfer that information from one computer to another. USB flash drives vary in size and shape and can hold gigabytes of information. USB flash drives are also called pen drives, key chain drives, key drives, and memory keys.

Note: You also need to be sure the USB drivers are properly installed.

What is CMD?

          Command Prompt is a feature of Windows that provides an entry point for typing MS‑DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) commands and other computer commands. The most important thing to know is that by typing commands, you can perform tasks on your computer without using the Windows graphical interface. Command Prompt is typically only used by advanced users. It is a pre-installed feature in Windows.

          Now, you only need to follow few commands.

• Insert your pen-drive into the computer.[On the Taskbar, Installing driver…. sign arrives and after Safely Remove icon appears.

  

  Safely Remove Hardware and Eject 

•  Autoplay pops up window displays on your desktop]

• Then, Click on Start button.
• In the search box, type cmd
• In the list of the results, right click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  

  Run as Administrator confirmation dialog box.

• Now, In Command Prompt type diskpart

  

  Cmd.exe : DISKPART

• Then, type list disk

  

  CMD : LIST DISK

• After that, select the drive which you want to repair. For example: For selecting disk 2, type select disk 2
• After the disk is selected, type clean
• Next, type create partition primary
• Now, all the important steps have been performed. But the most important step is still left. It’s time to format the pen-drive.There are two methods to format the drive.

Continuing the above steps….

•     Type format fs=ntfs quick, you can also format the drive in other file systems such as FAT32, FAT and exFAT. You only need to replace the above command fs=ntfs to fs=fat or any you want.[Note: after typing format fs=ntfs you, mustn’t forget to type quick, otherwise if prompted without entering quick may delay and extend your precious time.
•  Type assign
• Then, the last step, type exit
• After that, another autoplay new window arrives.

          Now, your corrupted pendrive is repaired.

If you find bore for typing lots of commands in CMD. You can rather use another way. The next way is ….

•  Continuing the above steps, type assign [As the above, autoplay window pops-up ]
• And then, type exit
•  Now, only need to format the drive in simple way.

That’s It! Now your corrupted USB flash drive is repaired.
